Culverʻs Fall Art Hustle Heroes

September began with a bang, fresh out the gates. I know, I know, weʻre into October now, but Iʻm still catching up with the flood of activity fall brings, when everyone else wakes up from their sleepy summer vacations and cranks up the work volume again.

In Los Angeles central there were over 3 dozen gallery show openings on September 8th, 2012, with most of those happening in Culver City, as usual. Not possible to make it to them all, especially when you end up looking for parking for over an hour in the La Cienega/Washington area !

Well I have to say it was worth the effort, because this night of shows restored my hope for the Culver art repertoire, after the spirit of art had seem to slightly wither into minimalistic garbage montages during my last visit to this infamous LA art strip. This time I found much more of the art to be exciting, colorful, dynamic, and intelligent, all the things I want to see most in art. So much that I still want to share it with you almost a month later!

My art hero highlights this time were: energetic abstract expressionist Dmitri Kozyrev, at Mark Moore Gallery, new graphic abstracts by Thomas Burke at Western Project, and the day-glo pop explosions of Sixeart at Carmichael Gallery.
